  • High-growth organization with advancement opportunities!
  • Diverse, Collaborative, & Fun Work Environment!

About the Role:

The Mechanical Designer supports the design and production of modular power solutions including E-Houses (modular electrical buildings), Power Distribution Centers (PDCs), and medium-voltage/low-voltage (MV/LV) skidded systems for mission-critical facilities. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining high-quality 2D/3D CAD models and manufacturing-ready drawings that communicate design intent clearly and enable repeatable fabrication.

Working closely with mechanical and electrical engineers, manufacturing, and quality, you will produce general arrangements, detailed fabrication drawings, and installation details for integrated modules that may include switchboards, ATS, UPS systems, battery rooms/energy storage areas, HVAC/ventilation components, fire system interfaces, structural baseframes, and enclosure/building features

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mechanical Layout, CAD Modeling, and Detailing
    • Create and maintain 3D models and 2D drawings for E-Houses, PDCs, and skid-mounted modules (plans, elevations, sections, details).
    • Develop equipment layout drawings that reflect installation, operation, and maintenance clearances; coordinate doors, hatches, and safe access/egress features.
    • Detail enclosure interfaces and penetrations including cable entry areas, equipment pads, louvers, dampers, and service access provisions.
    • Generate skid and baseframe details including structural members, lifting/rigging features, transport restraints, tie-down points, and anchoring/hold-down features (anchor bolt patterns, leveling/grouting notes, and installation tolerances) under engineering guidance.
  • HVAC, Ventilation, and Fire System Interface Drawings
    • Lay out HVAC equipment, ventilation components, and airflow path features (ducts, louvers, dampers, fans) per engineering direction and customer requirements.
    • Coordinate mechanical interfaces for fire detection/suppression systems (device locations, cylinder/agent storage allocation, piping/penetrations, and required clearances) as defined by the engineered design.
    • Ensure drawings reflect required integration constraints such as service clearances, condensation management, intake/exhaust separation, and equipment mounting details.
  • Manufacturing-Ready Documentation and Configuration Control
    • Produce fabrication-ready drawings and detail packages for weldments, sheet metal, enclosure features, and mounting hardware; apply company drafting standards and practices.
    • Create and maintain drawing release packages, revision history, and redlines; incorporate as-built updates following factory integration and testing.
    • Support bill-of-material (BOM) development and drawing-driven part identification; coordinate with procurement and vendors to align drawings with approved submittals.
    • Use document control and CAD/PDM tools to manage files, part numbers, and revisions (e.g., SolidWorks PDM or equivalent).
  • Factory Support, Quality, and Cross-Functional Coordination
    • Support production teams by answering drawing questions (RFIs), updating drawings as needed, and coordinating clarifications with engineering.
    • Participate in drawing walkdowns and quality checkpoints to verify build-to-drawing compliance; support disposition of drawing-related nonconformances through the approved change process.
    • Coordinate mechanical drawing interfaces with electrical layouts and routing constraints (equipment footprints, cable tray/conduit zones, grounding/bonding interface points).
    • Assist with FAT/FWT preparation by ensuring documentation packages are complete and reflect the tested configuration.

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Drafting/Design Technology, Mechanical Design, or similar (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 10 years producing 2D/3D CAD models and detailed drawings for industrial equipment, skids, modular buildings, or fabricated structures.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks (preferred) and/or AutoCAD for layouts, detailing, and drawing production.
  • Experience detailing fabricated assemblies (weldments/structural steel and/or sheet metal), including mounting features, hole patterns, and hardware callouts.
  • Ability to interpret engineer-provided requirements and translate them into clear, buildable drawings and installation details.
  • Strong attention to detail, file organization, and revision control in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to support work in fabrication shops/test areas; occasional travel (10-20%) within the Lower 48 U.S.
  • Build-to-print mindset with strong drafting discipline and pride in drawing quality.
  • Collaboration skills across engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and project teams.
  • Practical problem-solving with awareness of fabrication and assembly constraints.
  • Configuration control discipline and comfort working within engineering change processes (ECR/ECO/ECN).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, revisions, and deadlines with organized tracking.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with E-Houses, PDCs, data center power modules, MV/LV skids, or similar modular power solutions.
  • Familiarity with equipment-room mechanical features (HVAC, ventilation paths, louvers/dampers) and integration constraints.
  • Working knowledge of basic GD&T and fit-up considerations for fabricated assemblies.

Example Deliverables

  • Mechanical general arrangement drawings (plans/elevations/sections) for E-Houses, PDCs, and skids.
  • Baseframe and mounting/anchoring details including anchor bolt patterns and leveling/grouting notes (as directed).
  • Door/hatch/louver schedules and penetration coordination markups.
  • Fabrication drawings for weldments and sheet metal components with hardware callouts and assembly notes.
  • As-built drawing updates and revision packages following integration and FAT/FWT.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to twenty-five pounds at times.

Work Environment:
